With the loss against the Chargers Sunday, the Bears are in the position to reset the clock on a new quarterback, or reload this team with a haul of draft picks and free agent signings. The talent on this team leads me to believe that getting more players will help more than a rookie signal caller. I will say that this team, currently constructed, is not that far off. I know that may be hard to believe.... but chemistry and continuity takes time. We're in year two, and implementing new players and schemes, seeing what your strengths are, can only be done with game reps.
I'm really proud of Tyson, he came out and took control of his opportunity, but winning in this league is hard. Just ask Justin Herbert, his opponent, he's lost more games in his three year career than anyone (28)... and Brock Purdy is seeing the difficulty that all new signal callers inevitably will face. Bagent will get better, as will Fields, but that's contingent on the roster.
Which leads us to the position the Organization is in, what do you do with two picks possibly in the top five. Now let's be clear, there's not a quarterback in the next draft that's as athletic as Fields, he's a freak of nature (him and Fred Warner are the same size, which is insane). But that doesn't mean he can't be an asset to acquire more picks and depth, but do you want a strong reset of that caliber? With countless trade requests following? The mutiny and the loss of a locker room is far worse than the losses during a rebuild. These tough decisions are a great place to be in, because you can't get it wrong. Either way is right.
There is improvement made, we've seen it. The Offensive line, the Linebackers, the receiving core. There is improvement needed, we've seen that too, the safety position, the defensive line, the offensive line. So, and I know this is hard for Bears fans to hear, but stay the course. You have a talented roster that will get unbelievably better. The draft capital and cap space will put us in position to compete.
We are not that far off.
Chicago vs Everybody.
